Graeme Blackley started contracting in 1960 with a David Brown tractor and a towed excavator doing farm drainage and mowing in the Wairarapa. Graeme and his wife Janice moved to Manawatu in 1965, and in 1969 they shifted to Stoney Creek Road and established the company’s existing depot that now comprises of a house, a workshop, various offices, and a vehicle park.
The Stoney Creek Road base is just a few kilometres north of Palmerston North, well located to service its rural and urban-based clients.
Since those early days, the company has grown, developed, diversified and specialised with Kevin, Graeme’s eldest son, now owner and Managing Director.
In 2015 Blackley Construction Ltd proudly celebrated their 55th year in the construction industry.
Who We Are Now
Being construction specialists, Blackley’s now provide civil and rural services, and trenchless technologies. Plus operate a shingle plant in partnership with Raukawa Aggregates.
Operating on the outskirts of Palmerston North, the company services the greater Manawatu region, including Feilding, Marton and Rongotea, and leases a yard in Masterton as it looks to expand its operations.
Blackley’s has been involved in many wind farm projects across New Zealand and was responsible for laying drainage in Wellington’s Westpac Stadium when it was built.
