- Kobelco SK 40 excavator
- 2 x 6 wheeler trucks
- 12G Grundodrill directional drill
Brief description of the work:
The sewer replacement was done live because the new pipe was on the same alignment as the old pipe. This involved plugging flows at upstream manholes during the day and making temporary connections for overnight flows.
Each pipe system had a separate crew and equipment to avoid any cross contamination via equipment or staff especially as the sewer was worked on live.
Blackley Construction delivered the entire project including service location, traffic control, excavation, pipelaying, manhole construction, valves, hydrants, specials and laterals installation, backfilling, testing, connections, cut-ins and all surface reinstatement.
A comprehensive site specific health and safety plan was prepared for the site and this was integrated with our traffic management plan. Site controls were put in place to ensure the safety of road-users, pedestrians and our own staff.
The site was reviewed for potential environmental issues but only our standard controls and procedures were required.
This project was completed on time and on budget with minimal disruption to the community.
All residents and businesses were notified of the work and supplied with contact numbers should they have any issues. The contract management teams from Blackley and MDC also met on a regular basis to discuss the project.
