Central Districts Field Days, Feilding: 17-19 March 2016
After a bit of wet start braving the elements for the few hardy but valuable visitors on Day 1, the weather improved to be summer- like for Days 2 and 3 and the people arrived in droves. Our site was busy and we got some good new inquiries and also had a good catch up with some existing clients. Grant Binns, James Christensen and Phil Stephenson were on site representing Blackley.
Turns out this was the largest CD Field days event to date, with 500+ exhibitors and over 30,000 people visiting over the 3 days.
One highlight for us was a visit from a group of about 18 Land Drainage Contractors from Finland. Grant gave them an impromptu presentation on Blackley Construction and what we do. They were very interested in the size and versatility of our operation and asked lots of questions which we were able to answer. It was great to see these travelers in our part of the world.
Our site included a Safety Shield with photo-boards on one side and a 2+ metre high working model of a large subsoil drain at the front end. We pumped water into the gravel at the top and it ran out through a 200mm Nexus drain at the bottom.
On either side of the shield we had a plastic bin, one showing the “ideal” 5-15mm stone (as used in the working model) and the other containing 20-40mm stone described as “risky” to use in this situation.
This large working drain worked really well, and it was surprising how many people took an interest and stopped to have a look at it.
